About Me
I don't know about you, but when I start to explore all the
technology that is at my fingertips I become very overwhelmed. I
consider myself a techy (someone who is excited for and engaged in
technology), In fact I am a computer technician at a public High School.
The more I learn, the more I see I do not know; this isn't necessarily a
bad thing. I consider myself a lifelong learner and I certainly enjoy
learning from the "digital natives" that I work with and I am
comfortable knowing that I am a "digital immigrant" .
Educating the 21st century learner is challenging and exciting and is taking us in directions I could not have dreamed of when I was in High School. I had keyboarding on a REAL typewriter and research was done in the school library and after hours at the public library, today's students literally have the world at hand using their ipods, mobile phones and computers.
I love searching the net and discovering resources and tools, a lot of times I find I just stumble upon something fantastic that I wasn't even looking for. It is important for me to figure out some sort of filter because there is just too much available to me and I can become easily overwhelmed and distracted and start to shut down; I can't afford to let that happen, there is too much at stake.
I don't need to re-invent the wheel here, there is already a lot of phenomenal resources out there, my intent with this site is to use my filter and share and direct you to what I find helpful. I work with educators who are at very many varying levels of comfort with the use of technology and I see what a frightening experience it can be for them; If that educator is you, I hope to be able to help you table some of that fear and help you progress to a level of comfort that will enable you to start integrating technology in your classroom. If you already feel comfortable with the technology tools you use in your classroom, I hope I can expose you to some resources that you were not aware of before and encourage you to be a mentor to that staff member that could really use your help. It is imperative that we work together to successfully engage the K-12 students of today.
